Okay. 00:01.40 archpodnet Yep I. 00:18.32 archpodnet Dude Keep this is this keep this is the start keep this is the start maybe bleep out the ah the cussing there. 00:19.76 Andrew Ah, that is great. Yeah, yeah, that is that is genius. 00:21.84 Chris Ah, all right I welcome to the yeah here we go welcome to the show. Everybody joining me today is Heather in California. 00:22.92 Heather Kidney you to swear. So no think he's wearing. 00:26.56 archpodnet Yeah, maybe bleep out that chris. 00:32.71 Heather Ah, hi everybody. 00:37.74 Chris Andrew in California and Doug in Scotland doug and daughter. Sorry again I yeah so loam wolf and cub. Yeah, so so today we are going to. 00:37.99 Andrew Hello. Everyone. 00:42.61 archpodnet And daughter dog and daughter. Yep. 00:47.63 Heather Lone Work Lone wolf and cup. 00:54.26 Chris Ah, keep a little bit light and we're going to talk about Doug's topic today. So I'll just throw it over to him to have him introduce it so Doug what are we talking about today. 01:01.29 archpodnet Yeah, so this is ah the boxset podcast episode which is yeah, we all do it. Um, you know sometimes it's on the way to a project where you have a 12 hour or 11 hour or 8 hour drive sometimes it's you know, just actually your commute every morning. Um, you might have an hour or tw hour or 3 or 4 to get to the your site. Maybe it's to the office. Um, and maybe you're just like working in the lab and you need something to listen to. So. This is our episode about like what do we find are good like box sets for like Tv for also like you know evenings when you're getting done with the field and you just want to zone out and watch something what are your go to shows and you know what are your go to podcasts for either when you're working out in the field or the lab. Um. Course health and safety first you know obviously doing nothing dangerous that requires you to be able to hear. But um, when you're in those instances. Ah what is it? You guys listen to Chris if you don't mind I'll throw it to you first. 02:04.89 Chris Well you know regarding podcasts I'm probably not the best 1 to ask that question to be honest with you because most of the podcasts I listen to these days are archeology podcast network podcasts and I'm not saying that as a plug I'm really not It's just like as you know the founder and and owner of this network and somebody who hosts. 3 of the shows. Um I listen to every podcast as they come out usually on the day or within that week anyway um that they come out just because it's almost a quality control thing I want to be able to give feedback and pointers to the hosts. But I also learn quite a bit. You'd think that editing most of the shows I'd be able to listen to these in you know. And hear them. But I'm not listening for the content mostly when I'm editing them. It's a different mindset when you're doing an editing job. You're you're really listening for the vocal crutches and you're listening for. Um you know, misspeaks and things like that when somebody you know we try to clean that stuff up to make the flow just better. We won't edit for content. We just try to clean that stuff up. So. Actually learn a lot and the shows that I don't host like arche animals I don't know anything about zooareology. So I listen to that and I and I really get a lot of good information out of that um heritage voices again. I'm not an ethnographer and Jessica the host is and that's kind of her perspective on how she interviews people. Ah, but it's not just about ethnography. It's about all kinds of things and the life and ruins show is just entertaining Carlton David and Connor They do a really good job and and and then on top of that Andrew one of the hosts on this show has reignited the Pseudo Archeology Podcast so again I didn't want to really. 03:39.49 Chris You know I like the apn on that is like a commercial but that really is most of what I listen to now when I'm not listening to that kind of stuff and because I actually have quite a bit of time. Especially right now we're moving quite a bit in the rv because we're just like making our way across the country in like two months but that means we're moving like every weekend and so. You know I've got a lot of driving time and I listen at 2.25 is my my usual speed that I listen to podcasts at I've increased it from 2 two and a half is just almost too fast but 2.25 your your brain really gets it so I can listen to a little over twice as many shows in the same period of time but I listen to a lot of podcasts on podcasting. If you're interested in that at all school of podcasting podcasters roundtable. Um, the feed by Libsyn. Ah, there's ah, there's a few others and then when I'm not listening to those I tend to listen to more I guess business focus podcasts like um, the Jordan Harbinger show and some of John Le Duus's podcasts and you know a few others Tim Ferriss and stuff like that some of the popular ones that are more like business and professional development type stuff. So if you're interested in those type of topics then that's great I see podcasting as ah as a learning platform and a way to. Get things other people listen to podcasts in part as entertainment because they want to escape just like reading or watching a tv show which I totally understand true crime is pretty popular right now. A lot of people listen to true crime stuff I've just I don't know I feel like if I'm spending my time doing that if I have to spend my time driving for example, then I want. 05:10.18 Chris Something that just keeps me engaged keeps my mind learning because I'm not able to work I'm not able to do anything else I want to be able to make that time productive. So I listen to something that advances my knowledge in one way or another. And I start with apn shows because I try to listen to those on time then he usually moved to podcasting shows because obviously I'm a podcaster and and I want to be better at it and then ah and then I move on to like business and and professional development and stuff like that. So from a podcast standpoint That's my go to I can maybe talk about Tv shows a little later but if. If we're maybe covering podcasts now I'll let somebody else go. 05:47.68 archpodnet Well I'll be honest, we may have to jump to Tv shows because I don't really listen to podcasts like um ah I actually no know this is I occasionally like try to catch up on on the episodes I miss because it is. 05:52.67 Chris You don't even listen to this show. 05:55.85 Andrew Ah, yeah. 06:02.55 archpodnet Like you say Chris it is actually kind of nice to like listen to podcasts you can learn quite a bit. Um I just like I unfortunately am not very good at multitasking. So ah I'll I'll um yeah. 06:05.73 Chris Me. 06:17.16 Chris It's good to recognize that too right? because if you're not then you probably shouldn't. 06:21.51 archpodnet Yeah, like I mean yeah I used to be able to do it like you know I'd go out and just dig a trench and like you know you're doing a 1 by 1 by yourself and you just need to get in the zone and go down and it's fairly repetitive. Yeah I can do that sort of multitasking. Um, but like. 06:30.41 Chris Yeah. 06:40.13 archpodnet I Can't like set a podcast up because now a lot of stuff I do is digital. So like I really need to be paying attention to what I'm coding or what I'm video editing or something like that of course the video editing is tough because um I also need to yeah listen to the audio and stuff so I don't actually have. 06:43.56 Chris Yeah. 06:54.16 Chris Lows audio. Yeah. 06:59.72 archpodnet A lot of time to do podcasts. So um, other than like trying to catch up on Olds Crm Podcasts I got nothing as my go to. 07:09.60 Chris Well I I agree with you too I I do a lot of most of my work. These days is done online and I'm doing different things with you know, different client projects and stuff like that and I actually can't listen to podcasts when I'm doing that kind of stuff either. It's mostly while I'm driving or like you know going on a walk around and campground or iv park. We happen to be at or something like that. Um, but when I'm just like heads down on ah on the computer working. It's usually like you know some sort of fast you know music I wouldn't say quite techno but something that's just like get your get your energy going and keeps you up I call it my get shit done playlist and it's just something that. Gets me going that's music I can't hardly listen to podcasts when I'm doing stuff like that because I just need the brain space for it but looks like Andrew's got his hands up. 07:53.33 Andrew Um, yeah, so thank god I'm here because I'm shallow unlike the rest of you people. So um stuff I listen to on podcast like I love the rob low podcast because Rob low just talks about like kind of current. Movie stars and what they're doing or whatever and he just sort of chills out and it's lighthearted. Um, plus he he's cut. He's coming at you from the Santa Barbara area which I kind of know because I went to uscsb so I know the like streets. He's talking about or whatever. So I like that one. Um I like the moth. 08:10.70 Chris Nice. 08:24.79 Andrew I mean there's the moth radio hour but they also do their stories as a podcast. Yeah um I like Conan O'brien needs a friend Conan O'brien just interviews. Funny people. You know why? not? um I like the serial podcast which is one of those true crime ones. Ah that one. 08:26.69 Chris The shorter ones? yeah. 08:43.94 Chris Ah. 08:44.69 Andrew That one's yeah, really, that's that's the like if you want the serious in-depth you know multi chapter story that one's really great and then I mean there's always your various news of the day I like the Barry Weiss I think it's called honestly podcast it just like takes on the news of the day. 08:53.11 Chris Threats. 09:02.40 Andrew But whatever. Yeah I I'm somebody who kind of puts us on in the background or when I'm driving you know and I I think they're fun and lighthearted. 09:08.70 Chris Yeah, yeah, yeah. 09:11.92 archpodnet And well I was just I mean the media was ah you brought up something there Chris with like music and stuff. Um I think we might as well just expand this out to the full range of like what? what's the media that you use when you're when you doing an archeology um or out in the field or you know. 09:23.20 Heather Here. 09:27.95 archpodnet After after a long day and you're in the hotel or motel depending on how you've or tent depending on how you've been set up but like yeah Chris what's what's this ah music you're listening to Britney Spears Greatest hits 09:34.99 Chris Um, well I mean honestly I like anything I don't really care about the genre so to speak. Um because well I guess I do care about the genre but it's it's more. I don't really care about the style of music within the genre I just like stuff that is you know when I'm trying to work. It's stuff. That's like fast when I'm when I'm not trying to work and maybe I do just want to relax it really is just kind of lighthearted. You know hits kind of thing you know stuff I know you know 80 s ninety s stuff like that. Um I just something that is. I don't have to think about it and it's like feel good music. You know stuff like that. It's it's kind of the way I see since I'm not going to be on the other 2 segments I got to leave early. It's kind of the way I see tv shows too like we have some of the things that we watch like the whole you know, right now in October of 2022 as we're recording this. 10:11.13 Heather Or. 10:25.28 Chris Obviously we've watched house of dragon you know from the game of Thrones series and then the lord of the rings series that came out. We like that kind of stuff but when it comes to like just watching Tv in the evening I know my wife likes a lot of drama but I just like if I'm literally not going to work while we're sitting watching Tv which is rare I just want something that is funny. I prefer a comedy you know and I just want to I just want something that either is familiar to me and I like that like from the past or or something new. That's fine. But I just like comedy. That's how I like to relax I just can't sit there and chill with like a heavy drama that I really got to pay attention to because I really don't want to pay attention I focus so much throughout the day. 10:44.15 Heather Oh. 11:02.53 Heather Yeah. 11:03.46 Chris And I've got meetings from midnight to 2 a m with my european clients right now. So I've got this break in the evening where I literally if I'm not working I don't want to think about something I just want to sit there and laugh or not pay attention to it. But. 11:16.93 archpodnet Um, what are your go to shows for that. 11:20.87 Chris Oh man I don't even know like we like friends a lot I mean call me basic, whatever you want, but we're big friends fans. Um you know Seinfeld I love fraser as far as classic Tv shows go yeah um I'm from the Seattle area. So it's nice to watch Fraser and and kind of see some. 11:29.60 Heather I'm just gonna say yeah. 11:36.50 Chris You know some old Seattle references. That's nice and and comfortable I like old comfortable shows like that you know what I mean um, just like good a big bang theory. That's a go to favorite to just pick up an any episode within the series because you really just can do that? um like Seinfeld and so like I you can just pop in and enjoy an episode and you don't need to. 11:38.45 Heather Um, yep. 11:56.20 Chris Think about it or start from the beginning or something like that. Especially if you know it so those are kind of the old standbys and then I know there's lots of comedy movies that I could probably name off but I'd have to look by you guys. 12:11.29 Heather Ah, from from you know I I am the same way I am not a Tv person. Um, and I my my husband always jokes like really what we we watch Tv at the end of the day and in bed and it is I literally will fall asleep as soon as it turns on. 12:16.68 Chris So. 12:23.30 Chris Nothing. 12:28.83 Heather So he's like you know like at sometimes sometimes you know he's kind and of course you know it's a discussion where are we gonna watch but he knows in the end. He's the one who's gonna be watching it So not me because I'm out like a light um and but for me I if I have. 12:38.55 Chris Right? My wife's the same. My yeah. 12:48.13 Heather Tv on if I have it on ah when I'm walking and working around the house or working um at home. It's it's the old standbys and now I'm really going to date myself because some um like murder she wrote is my comfort comfortable show or. 13:01.62 Chris Nice, nice. 13:07.22 Heather Ah down to nabbvi I love downtown navvi the 1 problem with downtown abbby because I'm a huge down to Nabby Van is I will get sucked in no matter how many times I've seen it so I don't always I won't I'll do that'll be a work around the house thing to watch that not a work watch because I'll just be I I'll be watching it more than working. 13:15.98 Chris Um. 13:26.37 Heather Um, and then like for music I at when I'm working at work. It's I have like a playlist for my lab work and a playlist for when I'm writing to me. Ah John Denver and murray those kind of ah. 13:37.95 Chris Um. 13:45.64 Heather Carpenters are my when I'm writing because I can have that and it just makes me happy those songs I don't feel like I have to sing along with them. Although I do like doing that but I can write and still listen to the song when I'm. 13:57.80 Chris Yeah, yeah. 14:00.69 Heather In the lab. It's Pitbull Eminem Ac Dc Alt Journey you know and so it's kind of a completely different genre. But so you know the hype em up type music music. Um, yeah for me and for podcasts I you know I listen to this podcast. Um I'm usually on. 14:07.89 Chris M. 14:20.26 Heather But I definitely listen if I missed it and I listen just to you know, just to big critique of myself and wanting it to be better. Um I I listen to barrie wise to Andrew I love her. Um, and the um I one you know. 14:32.54 Andrew And that's great. 14:33.30 Chris Um. 14:39.17 Heather If I'm ever looking for something that's a new podcast. Ah my son is pretty good ah suggesting and there's 1 right now that I really like called healthy gamer and he's a psychiatrist that kind of started with you know, helping people. Not be addicted I guess to to gaming but he touches all different kinds of topics and he has guests on that he just you know he doesn't say this is like I'm helping these people really although I really do think he does. But um, they understand that they're you know going to have this conversation with the psychiatrist and the people are are going to. 15:04.49 Chris Um. 15:15.77 Heather Listen, but it really touches on some some pretty common issues in society today and and it's I Love how he handles things so that's a newer podcast for me. 15:24.78 Chris But Nices nice. Well I will just wrap this up this segment with a with a quick comment here First off Heather, you reminded me downtown Abbey is great. We love it too. We we watch that and and we watch the movies and and we watch the the show and it's all good, but that reminded me. Because I don't know why I forgot about this because literally last night we watched like 3 episodes in a row of ah the the current season of the great british bakeoff because I love that because it is lighthearted. It's not like serious drama like american you know even american like cooking shows are there. They always have to put some weird competition on it and. 15:52.28 Heather Oh guests? Yes, yes. 16:01.55 Heather Right? Yeah yeah. 16:03.73 Chris And they're all like mean about it. But these guys are just nice. They're generally sad when somebody gets kicked off the show and and and you learn something you learn something about baking and it's ah that it's just I don't know it's fun. It's really fun and lighthearted. And yeah, it's good stuff. So oh and if you haven't. 16:12.42 Heather I Do enjoy that. Yeah and the accents make it better. 16:19.28 Chris Right? And if you haven't watched it. We also watched I think there was only 1 season but the the british ah pottery throwdown. Um, that maybe there's 2 seasons of it. Yeah, it's very similar to the baking show but with pottery and it's just it's it's just really good in the same sort of veins. So all right with that yet. 16:27.60 Heather Oh I haven't seen that I try that? Okay, interesting. Um. 16:35.26 archpodnet I think there's going to be another season at least because they've they've um, they had to 1 of them. Ah, museums in stoke upon trent which is a big pody place massive potter production closed down recently for filming. 16:38.84 Chris Is there. 16:44.93 Chris Like yeah, that's where they do it. 16:52.95 archpodnet Um, which people got a little widely closing it down and they're like oh but it makes enough mind to keep it open for the rest of the year sort of thing as people explain so that happened maybe a couple months ago so I would say unless unless I'm pretty sure this has been on for a while. Um. 16:53.67 Chris Um, and I. 17:00.12 Chris Ah, exactly. 17:01.50 Heather Um. 17:09.55 archpodnet Yeah, there's going to be another season at some point. 17:12.38 Chris Nice, well, it's only come to the us s market I think the last couple of seasons. So um, that's ah and I think it's another show that Netflix has kind of bought and and ignited for the us. Oh my wife is telling me off off screen there. It's Hbo. So um, if you've got Hbo that's where it's at yeah. 17:15.63 Heather Oh. 17:25.70 Heather I don't have that. No. 17:29.90 Chris But anyway, all right? So with that I think let's go ahead and take a break just so everybody knows I won't be on the next 2 segments Doug is going to take over hosting of the show and we will I will personally see you in a couple weeks and and the rest of them well see you on the other side of this break back in a minute. 17:45.53 Heather Igris.
